La veste

The cool folks over at the Alliance Française de Singapour are bringing us the thirteenth French Excellence programme, Couture. Get ready for “**La Veste,” a super fancy exhibition showcasing some suave blazers from big-name fashion houses like Louis Vuitton, Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, and more. It’s on from January 17th to March 16th, 2024. This exhibition features the collection of law professor and fashion photographer David Tan, curated by the international fashion guru Leonard Choo. It’s a deep dive into the evolution of men’s fashion throughout French history. There will be 42 stylish men’s blazers on display, exploring the influence of masculinity on French culture.

The exhibition is divided into four sections – Military, Ornamentation & Decoration, Art, and Deconstruction/Reconstruction – guiding you through the different inspirations behind these stunning jackets. It’s all about how tradition has evolved and been challenged by creative designs, prints, fabrics, and embellishments. As you take in the exhibit, you’ll see how men’s fashion has been impacted by historical events, from the French Revolution to the world wars and even the 1960s counter-culture movement. It’s a journey through time that’s not just about clothing, but also about societal change and personal expression.

As if that wasn’t cool enough, Alliance Française de Singapour is also throwing in some fun activities during Couture, including movie nights and a Bring Your Own (BYO) jacket workshop. Leonard Choo, in cahoots with the Singapore Fashion Council, will be jazzing up your wardrobe in these sessions.

Oh, and did we mention – tickets for La Veste exhibition are free? For more juicy deets, check out their website.
