Part of Julien’s Auctions

Three Day Auction Event on Thursday, March 28, Friday, March 29 & Saturday, March 30, 2024 in Los Angeles, California.

Julien’s Auctions just announced a significant piece of Hollywood history related to Hugh Hefner and Marilyn Monroe. The burial crypt, located near the final resting places of these two iconic figures, will be up for auction as part of the PROPERTY FROM THE PLAYBOY ARCHIVES AND THE HUGH M. HEFNER FOUNDATION, AND PROPERTY FROM THE LIFE AND CAREER OF MARILYN MONROE event. The auction is scheduled for Thursday, March 28th, Friday, March 29th, and Saturday, March 30th in Los Angeles, both live and online at Julien’s Auctions. This mausoleum crypt, estimated to be worth $200,000 – $400,000, is located in the Corridor of Memories, Wall B, Space C-3 at Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park & Mortuary in Los Angeles. Situated near Marilyn Monroe’s final resting place, this crypt holds a special place in the hearts of fans who continue to visit the cemetery to pay their respects to the beloved Hollywood star. The location holds additional significance as it is where Joe DiMaggio, Monroe’s ex-husband, organized a private funeral for her in 1962. Hugh Hefner, who purchased the adjacent crypt in 1992, was laid to rest beside Monroe in 2017, expressing in a 2009 interview with the Los Angeles Times that “Spending eternity next to Marilyn is an opportunity too sweet to pass up.”

Notably, Pierce Brothers Westwood is also the final resting place of several other show business legends, including Natalie Wood, Farrah Fawcett, Ryan O’Neal, Truman Capote, Darryl F. Zanuck, Jack Lemmon, and Billy Wilder.

This crypt, situated amongst these Hollywood icons, is part of the upcoming three-day auction offering over 1,000 artifacts from the early life of Hugh Hefner and the Playboy era, as well as personal belongings and memorabilia from Marilyn Monroe’s illustrious life.

Highlights from this auction will be heading for the first time in an exhibition in Hong Kong at the Fringe Club, 2 Lower Albert Road, Central January 27 through February 1st before heading back to Julien’s Auctions in Los Angeles, California March 28 through March 30.
